Evelina had her first pediatrician appointment today. She wowed Dr. Evelyn with her advanced grabbing skills, got 100% on her hearing test, and is excelling at all of her two month milestones (opening hands, smiling, cooing, recognizing mom and dad, and holding her head up.) The doctor declared her "perfect." Not like we didn't know that already! Here are her stats:
Height: 23 inches, 76 percentile (she's tall for her age -- surprise, surprise!)
Weight: 11lbs, 3oz, 61 percentile
They also measured her head, which is in the 59th percentile. I asked what these percentiles mean, and she explained the height one by saying that out of 100 little girls her age, she is taller than 76 of them. Pretty cool!
We decided on an alternate vaccination schedule that spreads them out a bit more and doesn't give her more than three at once. I am not against vaccines, but I'm definitely cautious, and I hate the idea of her little body having to fight six different diseases at one time. Today she got rotavirus (orally) and dtap (shot.) She wailed. I cried a little too. Scott probably wanted to cry, but imagine the mess that would've been! ;) I nursed her right after, and she made sure to let me know how upset she was. She kept "talking" with her mouth full. She's a big talker; both the doctor and a couple midwives have made mention of it. It's very amusing! We expect her to talk early.
She smiled at me when I put her in the carseat to go home, but I still felt pretty bad for a while after. I had to snap out of it quick, though, because I was a guest speaker tonight at school. Thankfully I am off work on Wednesdays (for now), so my day wasn't TOO stressful.
The doctor and nurse were impressed that she hasn't had a drop of formula. We're pretty impressed, too! They said her weight gain is fantastic. No problems there! We introduced her to bottles of breastmilk when she was about three weeks old and Scott had been giving her one about once a week. That changed to daily this week when I started back to work. I pumped every day last week to try and get a small supply stored up. I'm glad I did, because now I'm a lot less worried about whether or not there's enough milk for her. I don't think formula is the devil or anything, we'll use it if we have to...I just like the idea of not having to! Lots of money saved, and all-around healthier! Pumping at work has been a LOT easier than I'd anticipated, so that's an unexpected bonus. Evie has had no issues going between bottle and breast -- she just loves food, any way she can get it.
Since Evie is home with her daddy, I haven't been too upset about being back at work. I've even enjoyed it a bit! I know I don't have to worry about her because she's with someone who loves her just as much as I do. I'm also really thankful to be working part time for a bit; I think it makes the transition much easier.
Other things of note:
- She loves the owls on the mobile on her pack and play. They were one of the first things (aside from us) to get her to smile often.
- She coos and smiles more every day.
- She also seems to make new sounds every day.
- She's getting better at sucking on her fingers/thumbs.
- She takes a long time to wake up, and will flail around and grunt for several minutes before she does. It's hilarious, and I need to get a video of it!
- She has been "sleeping through the night" (a 6 hour stretch) consistently since about four weeks old!
- The aforementioned detail makes for a very happy and well rested mommy and daddy. People take note of this often, and like to express their jealousy.
- We keep thinking she can't get any cuter, then she does!
She's definitely starting to do more things, so I'll be sure to update more! It's easy to share pictures on facebook, but I like to have something to look back at with more detail. I got a set of photos today from the birth to put into her baby book. They are too private to share with the whole internet, but they are precious to us. Thanks again for taking them, Allie!
